There are certain office dynamics that even the best team-building exercises can’t fix. There is the mean boss, the kiss-up manager, the passive-aggressive coworkers, the over-eager party planner, and the office besties. Then there are boring tasks, strange requests, ridiculous demands, endless gossip, and failed flirtations.
These issues permeate the daily work life of two office assistants who try to navigate the pressures and demands of their daily jobs in B Street Theatre’s kooky, chaotic comedy “Working for Crumbs.”
B Street is staging the world premiere of Kate Danley’s “Working for Crumbs” after the play won the theater’s 2025 New Comedies Festival last year. The New Comedies Festival is hosted by the theater, where new works are selected from submissions nationwide.
We are introduced to the two office assistants as they prepare for another stressful day at an unnamed corporation. Amy (Tara Sissom) and Grace (Stephanie Altholz) don’t really understand the demands of their job, which change by the hour; their over-bearing boss, who is a brutal overlord; or how to change the dynamics of a toxic work environment.
Enter red-clad and fur-coated Helen (Elisabeth Nunziato) – the over-the-top head honcho, part Cruella de Vil, part Miranda Priestly – issuing ridiculous demands with a supreme bitchy attitude.
What starts off as a normal weekday soon descends into madness as havoc ensues. There’s comic relief, a crime or two, extra characters floating in and out, and ridiculous outcomes.
