FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — After the Fresno Chaffee Zoo announced that its Tropical Rainforest Aviary is closing due to safety concerns, community members were quick to voice their disappointment, and even began a petition.

The Tropical Rainforest Aviary has been a historic addition to the Zoo since its opening on May 14th, 1988.

When asked if the Zoo would allow public comments on the situation, the zoo replied with the following statement:

Many projects at the Zoo are funded through self-generated revenue, and there are no current plans to use Measure Z funds for a re-imagined Rainforest exhibit. While we recognize the public’s attachment to the space, it no longer allows our animal care teams to provide the highest standard of care possible for the animals that call it home. As a modern accredited zoo, our responsibility is to continually evaluate our facilities and ensure they meet the evolving needs of the animals in our care. We believe our community of over 800,000 annual visitors shares that commitment, has confidence in our experience and professionalism, and wants us to prioritize providing the best possible welfare for the animals in our care.

FOX26 would like to know, do you trust the Fresno Chaffee Zoo to make the best decision regarding the exhibit?
