MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) — An 86-year-old North Fork man driving along Highway 41 has died after getting into a crash with another vehicle last week.

The crash happened on Friday, June 19, around 8:01 p.m. on northbound Highway 41, north of Highway 145.

CHP found that a 19-year-old Fresno man was driving a 2011 Mercedes E350 northbound on Highway 41.

Behind him, an 86-year-old North Fork man was riding a 2014 Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the same direction.

Investigators say the driver of the Mercedes pulled onto the right shoulder with the intention of making a U-turn and heading southbound.

As he attempted the turn, he entered the path of the approaching motorcycle.

The Harley-Davidson collided with the left side of the Mercedes, throwing out the rider from the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno with major injuries.

He later died at the hospital.

The 19-year-old driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, while the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.

CHP do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.

The crash remains under investigation.
