Los Angeles features 25 restaurants on the guide
Less than six months into opening, chef Marcus Jermark’s Lielle has earned Michelin-star status.
“It’s about cooking excellent food and focusing on everything that the guests touch, taste and smell,” he told Los Angeles earlier this year. “Running a restaurant is something highly personal.”
Culinary intimacy proved successful for Lielle, which was just one of nine restaurants across California to earn one Michelin star for the first time. The Pico-Robertson fine dining restaurant was also joined by Corridor 109, Kojima, Miura and Seline (also on Los Angeles’ Best New Restaurants list).
Michelin made the announcement during its California guide ceremony on June 24 in Downtown San Diego.
“As one of our legacy destinations in the U.S., California helped set the standard for exceptional dining experiences worth traveling for,” said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide. “This year is no different as California continues to be a pace setter for the industry based on our Inspectors’ brilliant discoveries.
Kato, chef Jonathan Yao’s Taiwanese omakase institution in Downtown Los Angeles leveled up the list by earning a second star. It first joined the list with one in 2019. However, Arts District neighbors 715 and Camphor lost a star, as did Morihiro (following a move late last fall to Echo Park from Atwater Village).
Somni and Providence — the first Los Angeles restaurants to earn three Michelin stars — retained their status.
