If you are a fan of the singer Kate Bush, the novel “Wuthering Heights” or just dancing — especially while wearing red — the Pacific Beach/Taylor Library has the activity for you.
The fourth annual “The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever” dance performance is returning to the library’s Taylor Greene at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 18. Participants of all ages and dance skill levels are encouraged to wear red as they dance to Bush’s 1978 song “Wuthering Heights” based on Emily Brontё’s classic 1847 novel.
Library branch manager Christina Wainwright said the free Pacific Beach event was inspired by a 2013 dance performance at the Brighton Fringe Festival in the United Kingdom. Since then, fans of Bush and the novel have been learning Bush’s “roll and fall” dance choreography and recreating it at venues around the world in July because that is the month of Bush’s birthday.
As before, in the weeks leading up to the PB performance, Wainwright and library staff will give free dance lessons. Remaining lessons are at 6 p.m. Tuesday June 30, July 7 and 14, and 4 p.m. Saturday, June 27 and July 11. All will be outside on the library’s Taylor Greene facing Dawes Avenue.
Those who cannot attend the rehearsals can also learn the choreography by watching videos online that break all the steps down with detailed explanations. The videos are available at tinyurl.com/PBWuthering26.
A final rehearsal will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 18 right before the performance that everyone is welcome to watch.
“It is a way to be creative, connect and promote togetherness,” Wainwright said at last year’s performance. “It celebrates literature and music. … We are having a good time together.”
Last year’s event drew not only locals, but some from as far as San Francisco because it was the only one of its kind in California, according to Wainwright.
