BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Summer is officially here and as the weather heats up more families find themselves enjoying time in the pool.
It’s important for families to take every precaution they can to keep young children safe near water.
Kern County Public Health is highlighting their Water Watchers program which designates an adult to keep an eye on the water at all times and avoid any distractions.
Program Manager Michelle Corson joined ARC Bakersfield to share more details.
Corson says drowning remains the number one cause of death for children ages one to four.
She says more precautions families can take include making sure weak swimmers wear a life jacket, fencing in pools, and learning CPR.
