SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) — 30-year-old Austin Carter, a registered sex offender and parolee was arrested after a knife was taken from his hand by a drone with a magnet in a Sacramento standoff.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says they have introduced a new robotic K9 platform, named Buster.

30-year-old Austin Carter, who was seen earlier with a firearm, refused to come out of the garage.
Carter is a registered sex offender and parolee with a violent criminal history and prior barricaded suspect incidents.

Deputies say that while Special Enforcement Detail (SWAT) was on scene, he consumed all the drugs that he had.
After repeated negotiation attempts, they received no response from Carter.
Deputies from the SCOUT Team deployed a drone inside the garage.
The drone found Carter in the corner of the garage, unresponsive.
One hand was hidden underneath his body, while the other one was holding a knife.
The drone was able to disarm Carter by flying over the knife and using a powerful magnet to lift the knife out of his hand.

Deputies say this was the first in the nation to use a drone to successfully disarm a suspect.
After some time, Crater was standing up and continued not to cooperate.
Sheriff’s K9 Beau was deployed into the garage and successfully apprehended him.

He was given medical care and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

After he was cleared by the hospital, Carter was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he remains ineligible for bail.
