Monterey Park has launched an air purifier reimbursement program that will help income-qualified residents who purchased filtration devices in response to the Boyle Heights warehouse fire, city officials announced Thursday.
The fire, which broke out in a cold food storage building on June 17,was officially knocked down Wednesday. But after burning for eight days, the fire generated significant smoke that affected air quality throughout the region, including Monterey Park.
“We recognize that many families incurred unexpected expenses to safeguard indoor air quality during the recent fire,” Mayor Elizabeth Yang said. “This program is intended to help offset those costs for households most impacted by the incident.”
The reimbursement program is available to Monterey Park neighbors who meet income qualifications and purchased eligible air purifiers during the designated reimbursement period, city officials said.
Reimbursements up to $75 will be offered to those who qualify as applications will be accepted between June 29 and July 31.
Applicants will need proof of residency, income eligibility, and the original purchase receipt.
