Los Angeles is a place packed with incredible contrasts, with brilliant hues, vivacious vistas, and dramatic landscapes, and cityscapes, capturing our most fantastical fancies.

LA artist Joshua Vides has long been plugged into the “high contrast experiences” found around Southern California, including those marvel-filled moments that “… dissolve the distinction between reality and illustration.”

The show came together over nine busy days as Mr. Vides painting a quintet of cars inside the gallery, as well as the walls and other elements.

Look to “Flat Out: The Art of Joshua Vides,” now on exhilarating view at the Petersen Automotive Museum.

“With his ‘Reality to Idea’ style, Vides makes real-world objects appear as striking black-and-white, two-dimensional illustrations,” shared the Petersen Automotive Museum.

“To create this effect, he painstakingly hand-paints crisp black lines onto all-white surfaces to create monochromatic graphic artwork that resembles flat comic book sketches.”

The Petersen team says that some of the past collaborations enjoyed by Mr. Vides “… include Nike, Converse, Fendi, Google, and G-Shock.”

The show opened in late June and will be on view at the Miracle Mile museum through early July 2027.

“I’ve had the opportunity to paint numerous vehicles and create galleries before, but to bring ‘Reality to Idea’ to life in a gallery at the Petersen is a dream come true,” said the artist.

“Every vehicle provides a unique canvas, as do the spaces they are set in. Doing this at the Petersen was such an honor, and I am excited for the public to experience this exhibition.”
