The award-winning Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir is always worth checking out in concert.

And Bay Area fans will have the chance to do just that when the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir — led by charismatic artistic director Terrance Kelly — performs its annual Juneteenth Celebration Concert on June 27 at The Bankhead Theater in Livermore.

It’s the chance to “experience the soul-stirring sound of voices united in joy, resilience and hope” during “this high-energy, spirit-lifting performance (that) honors freedom and community through the transformative power of gospel music,” according to information provided on the venue’s website.

Showtime is 8 p.m. and tickets are $35, livermorearts.org.

Formed in 1986, Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir has collaborated with such well-known acts as the Five Blind Boys of Alabama, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, MC Hammer, Linda Ronstadt and even the Muppets rock act Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem Band.

The Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir was the subject of the documentary film “One Voice,” which made its world premiere at the Mill Valley Film Festival in 2018. It’s a truly inspiring film and story, illustrating how people from different walks of life can overcome barriers and band together to make beautiful music of praise and worship.

“This music speaks to people in a way that nothing else does,” Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir’s Terrance Kelly said. “No matter what your faith, it hits you on a bone level.”

Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir also performs July 2 at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton, opening up for fellow East Bay greats Tower of Power as part of the popular Big O Tires Concert Series.

“And you know we’re gonna be bringing the power as we get audiences on their feet, clapping and singing along,” according to a message from Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir on its website.
