LBPD blotter: Thief hits out-of-town contractor in Long Beach

June 15 — Burglary: A subject came into the office to report multiple thefts against the company he is working for, Western United Civil Group. The subject is currently working in Long Beach, putting in sewer lift stations at multiple locations.
Over the weekend of June 5-8, a theft occurred at one of their construction sites located by the Breakers building on 26th Street W. At a fenced-in construction site at the Breakers Hotel, a lock was cut off the enclosed storage container. Taken were a hand-held Stihl B6 86 leaf blower, worth approximately $360, and a red 2-inch MQ submersible pump, worth approximately $550.
The second incident occurred on the night of June 12, in the parking lot of the Best Western, where an employee parked a company truck with tools in the back. Between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m., on June 13, someone approached the truck and took a power tool out of the back that was in arm’s reach. A Stihl TS 800 cut-off saw was taken, worth around $2,150. There is possibly a video coming from Best Western.
Later, an officer spoke with a subject at Best Western, and was told that the cameras did not pick up anything during the reported time of the theft, as their cameras are live streams only. (Which help in no way!) Nothing was found at Breakers, either. At this time, the case will be closed, as there are no current suspects. This report was made for insurance purposes for Western United Civil Group, if they want it.
June 16 — The manager of Beach Place Apartments called to inform the police department there is transient activity in the alley at night. Tenants of the apartment said there has been activity for about the last week, possibly more. There is currently clothing, etc., in the alley, but nobody is there. The caller stated people go in/out of there at night. Night Shift: Please do a check of the alley, and make sure nobody is sleeping there.
Traffic complaint: A call was received at the office complaining about a large white truck parked in a handicapped spot with a handicapped sticker at Ocean Beach Hospital. The registered owner was a surgeon at the hospital. When an officer asked to speak to him, he was eventually told that he was in surgery. The officer advised the person he was talking to get the truck moved as soon as possible, and to tell the good doctor to not park in those spots.
June 18 — Employees at a clinic called, stating that there was a male subject who was yelling and banging on their door. He was carrying bags and a mat. An officer found the subject a block north of the building. He gave his name, and said he was not yelling, nor was he banging on doors.
It was clear he had mental issues, and he said he was just trying to go to the bus stop so he could leave town. The officer told him that if he had to deal with him again, he would be taking the subject to jail if he committed any crimes. He became agitated and walked off.
The officer contacted the staff and they said that the subject urinated on the ground, and also threw up by the door. The officer asked if telling him not to come back was acceptable, and they said yes. The officer later drove where he could see the bus stop, and the subject was there waiting for it.
Traffic accident: A subject came in to report that a gray Ford Explorer drove onto the sidewalk and hit a speed sign. The driver got out, and looked at the damage, and left. A city crew was asked to come pick up the debris.
An officer was able to track down the subject who hit the sign, and he called and asked her to return to the scene. She stated that she turned wide to avoid a car that she did not see, and struck the pole. She said that she was going to call the police department when she got home. The officer believed that she was telling him the truth. Only a log entry will be completed at this time.
Dispatch received a call about a crash detection from an iPhone. Two officers checked the area, and were unable to locate a crash. One of the officers talked to someone in the area, and they observed a person run into the roadway and pick up a phone that had fallen out of a car shortly before they got there.
Caller reported her vehicle was hit by a white Mazda in the parking lot of McDonald’s. The Mazda went through the drive-through, and employees told the occupants that they struck caller’s car. The occupants then fled the scene. The suspect vehicle, with an Oregon plate, was unable to be located.
The cameras at McDonald’s are believed to have been working and might have footage. The on duty manager was unable to access the footage, but left a note for the next manager.
On June 20, an officer reviewed the footage, and there is no way to identify the driver from it.
An employee said he knows someone who knows who the female suspect is. He advised the officer that he would get the suspect’s name and contact the officer.
June 19 — Theft: Caller saw a subject digging through the recycling bins at the Port of Ilwaco. An officer contacted her and told her she couldn’t do that anymore. She said she understood, and left.
June 21 — Caller reported that someone was following her. It was two guys fighting, and a male subject was attacking and punching people, and they were heading towards the Bolstad approach. The fight started outside the Long Beach Tavern, and then continued to the Bolstad approach. A citation for disorderly conduct was issued to Luke A. Erickson.
For next shift: Some of the involved parties should be reaching out to the police department to turn in their statements today. There is also a need to attempt to get footage from inside and/or outside the Long Beach Tavern to see if there was anything leading up to the fight.
