BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Eleven people were arrested and 10 dogs were seized following an encampment clean-up operation Wednesday around the Old Town Kern area, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
On June 24, BPD’s Impact Unit worked with the city’s Code Enforcement and Rapid Response Team to clean up encampments along Baker, Kern, Dolores Inyo and Chico streets, officials said.
Seven encampments were cleaned up in total, according to BPD.
Officials removed 1.62 tons of trash — about 3,240 pounds — and arrested and booked 11 people into Lerdo Jail on suspicion of public nuisance, illegal lodging, drug paraphernalia and active warrants.

According to BPD, Animal Control seized 10 dogs and the owners were offered spay and neuter services.
Before the operation, a city-contracted outreach provider called Be Finally Free went to the area to offer resources to those experiencing homelessness there, according to police.
