Getting from Maine to the western part of the country is now a lot easier, thanks to multiple new flight options.On Saturday, United Airlines flight 1207 arrived at the Portland International Jetport at 4:24 p.m., bringing passengers directly from San Francisco for the first time. The Portland Fire Department provided a ceremonial water salute.United also started providing nonstop service between Portland and Los Angeles (LAX) on Saturday. Both routes are seasonal and only fly on Saturdays, but are the first time there has been direct commercial service between Maine and California.These flights currently use Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, which can carry up to 178 passengers.The plans for the flights were first announced in January.This means there is now nonstop service from Portland to all seven of United’s domestic hubs. United is also be operating Saturday service to Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas and has daily services to Chicago O’Hare, Denver, New York City/Newark, and Washington DC Dulles for the summer 2026 travel season.Also on Saturday, United began its first-ever scheduled nonstop service between Bangor and Denver.
