BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Speed and intoxication are believed to be factors in a crash where a vehicle hit a power pole, a fire hydrant, and a block wall in southwest Bakersfield Saturday afternoon.
The Bakersfield Police Department said on June 27th, 2026, at around 3:32 p.m., officers heard a crash in the 2300 block of Ashe Road and immediately responded.
When officers arrived, they found that one vehicle, a gray Chevy Camaro, had collided with a power pole, a fire hydrant, and a block wall.
Police said that both occupants, identified as two men, got out of the vehicle and declined medical aid on scene.
Police said that as a result of the collision, a power outage happened in the surrounding area and a water main had to be shut down due to the ruptured fire hydrant.
PG&E and Cal Water employees were at the scene to restore services.
According to police, a preliminary investigation found that the driver of the involved vehicle was travelling south on Ashe Road when he struck the center median and lost control of the vehicle.
Police said speed and intoxication are believed to be factors in the crash.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to a hospital for medical clearance, where it was discovered he sustained severe injuries. Police said he was in “critical but stable condition.”
