FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — When the Fresno Pro-Am basketball league started five years ago, the goal was to give local talent a place to work on their game – and give basketball fans a place to catch a good game.
There was certainly one of those Sunday at Fresno Pacific University, in the second week of Season 5 for the Fresno Pro-Am.
Fresno native Khristian Holmes (Las Positas College) knocked down the game-winning 3-pointer for The Playmakers. Then he shared why the Fresno Pro-Am is a difference maker,
“Just gives me the exposure to be around, you know, playing against great players,” Holmes said. “You’re always going to be looked at when you’re playing well against great players.”
There are 120 players, ranging from high school to professional. Returning talent that played Sunday included former Fresno State basketball players Deshon Taylor and Junior Ballard.
But that’s not all.
“This year, we have a lot more new talent,” said Fresno Pro-Am Commissioner Alton Williams. “A lot of talent seeing the Fresno Pro-Am platform, they love what they see, and they’re showing up and showing out for the fans.”
Headlining the new talent is a former NBL star in Australia and current British Super League player, D.J. Mitchell.

“Raised in Fresno, went to Buchanan High School, so yeah, I’ve been around the area for a long time,” said Mitchell. “Just glad to be back. Alton is putting on something great out here. It’s good to be a part of it.”
