Here’s where fireworks are legal in Southern California

As the 4th of July holiday weekend approaches, officials are warning Southern California residents that there’s zero tolerance for illegal fireworks, which are defined as any device that doesn’t carry the State Fire Marshal-approved “Safe and Sane” seal.

Fireworks purchased online, shipped from out of state or bought from unlicensed sellers are illegal and extremely dangerous, according to CAL FIRE, and they carry a high risk of sparking accidental wildfires.

The Los Angeles Fire Department is reminding Angelenos that all fireworks, including “Safe and Sane” fireworks, are illegal for personal possession or use in the city.

Tips to keep pets safe during 4th of July fireworks and festivities

They’re encouraging residents to attend a permitted fireworks show or drone display instead.

Only fireworks sold through permitted “Safe and Sane” fireworks booths in these approved communities in Southern California are legal to purchase and possess.

CAL FIRE says possessing or using illegal fireworks or using any type fireworks in communities where they are prohibited can result in fines of up to $50,000 and up to one year in jail.
