Caltrans announced a July 4 closure of Highway 101 in both directions in preparation for a fireworks show on the Golden Gate Bridge celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Highway 101 in San Francisco and Marin County will be closed 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. The highway will be closed northbound in San Francisco at the Lincoln Boulevard off-ramp, at both on- and off-ramps at Girard Street, the southbound off-ramp at Spencer Avenue in Marin County, at the interchange off-ramp between Highway 101 and Route 1, and the Route 1 off-ramp at Lake Street.
The bridge will be closed to all automobiles, bikes and pedestrians.

Northbound drivers are urged to take Interstate 80 east across the Bay Bridge, then Interstate 580 west and cross the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge to reach Highway 101. Southbound drivers are recommended to take I-580 east across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge and I-80 west across the Bay Bridge into San Francisco.

The firework show will begin at 9:30 p.m. and will launch from the east side of the Golden Gate Bridge. Recommended viewing locations include Crissy Field, Marina Green and the Pier 39 Fisherman’s Wharf. The Crissy Field and Marina Green parking lots will be closed to the general public from 6 a.m. July 4 until 6 a.m. July 5.
This week’s fireworks display is just the third time fireworks have been launched from the Golden Gate Bridge since it opened in 1937.
