San Diego County will mark Independence Day with fireworks and drone light shows at venues across the region on July 3 and July 4. Displays range from large-scale bayfront shows and fairground celebrations to community festivals in parks and neighborhoods, with most scheduled to begin around 9 p.m.
For San Diego families looking to see the sky light up, here are some places to watch fireworks and drone shows this holiday from the coast to inland communities.
Mira Mesa fireworks show: The fireworks show on July 3 starts at 9 p.m. over Wangenheim Middle School. A community picnic is from 4 to 9:30 p.m. at Hourglass Field Community Park. Oceanside fireworks and drone display: Fireworks are set for 9 p.m. on July 3 at the SoCal Soccer Complex at El Corazon, with gates opening at 4 p.m. for a celebration. The event will feature family-friendly lawn games, crafts, food trucks and a DJ spinning dance music starting at 6 p.m. Parking at the soccer complex is $15 per car (lot entry closes at 8 p.m.), with free parking available at Ocean Ranch Business Park; RVs and buses are not permitted, and picnics are allowed, but alcohol and dogs are prohibited. Chula Vista fireworks and celebration: Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. hosted by the city of Chula Vista and Seven Mile Casino at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center. Fireworks at San Diego County Fair: A patriotic celebration will be taking place all day July 4 culminating in fireworks at 9 p.m., which can be viewed throughout the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The Marine Band San Diego will perform at 7:30 p.m. on the Corona Grandstand Stage. On-site parking is $25-$60, with $5 discount for buying online in advance. Escondido America 250 fireworks and celebration: Fireworks are set for 9 p.m. on July 4 at Kennedy Park, capping off a free Independence Day celebration. Independence Day concert and fireworks: “Honoring 250 years of American Spirit” on July 4 at Grape Day Park, hosted by the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. Imperial Beach fireworks and live music: The fireworks show will start at 9 p.m. July 4 off the Imperial Beach Pier. La Jolla drone show: The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club and La Jolla Shores Hotel will host a drone show featuring 500 drones soaring 350 feet above the shoreline with patriotic imagery. Poway Double Fireworks: Two Independence Day fireworks shows will launch simultaneously at 9 p.m. on July 4 from Poway High School’s football field and the Sportsplex in the Poway Business Park. The Sportsplex will not be open for viewing, but fireworks will be visible across the valley, with street parking available throughout the South Poway Business Park. At Poway High School, gates open at 6 p.m. with games, activities and a DJ. Ramona Family Picnic and Fireworks: Ramona will host a full day of Independence Day festivities featuring live music, a fun zone, a cornhole tournament and a car show with motorcycles and tractors, along with food and craft vendors. Big Bay Boom: The free fireworks show will be displayed simultaneously from barges on San Diego Bay starting at 9:15 p.m. July 4. Barge locations will be off the shorelines of Shelter Island, Harbor Island, North Embarcadero, Marina District and Coronado Ferry Landing. Bring lawn chairs or get in a boat to watch. Maritime Museum fireworks celebration: There will be fireworks on the bay and viewing July 4 on the Maritime Museum of San Diego’s Berkeley and several historic ships moored by the North Embarcadero. Vista America 250 Independence Day celebration: Fireworks are set for 9 p.m. on July 4 at Brengle Terrace Park, with the park opening at 7 a.m. and the Moonlight Amphitheatre opening at 5 p.m. Live music by The Cassie B Project begins at 7:35 p.m. and resumes after the fireworks. Admission to the Moonlight Amphitheatre is $5 per person at the gate starting at 5 p.m., with no advance ticket sales. SeaWorld fireworks: SeaWorld San Diego will put on a 20-minute fireworks show to salute the country’s service members and the nation’s 250th anniversary. The park offers entertainment ranging from stunt shows and character appearances to a summer concert series.
