A Sacramento family is mourning the death of 56-year-old Willie Brown, who was struck and killed early Saturday near Watt Avenue and Kings Way. The California Highway Patrol says the driver involved was under the influence.The crash happened just after midnight Saturday, according to CHP. Investigators said Brown was outside a crosswalk when he was hit. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI, and CHP said the investigation remains ongoing.Brown’s sister, Villeen Miles, said the loss has been devastating, especially because she fears her brother’s story could have gone unnoticed.“He had a hard life. He had a tough life,” Miles said. “This is how his life ended right when he was about to start getting his life together.”Miles said Brown had been living on the streets but was trying to move forward with his life.“I’m advocating for my brother. So of course I’m going to do that,” Miles said. Miles described her brother as a loving and generous person despite the hardships he faced.“You know, when I say literally he would give you the shirt off his back, he would literally do it,” Miles said.She also spoke emotionally about the driver’s decision to get behind the wheel.“You took Willie Brown, you took him from us. We aren’t going to see him no more because you made that decision,” Miles said.Even in her grief, Miles said she is trying to respond with forgiveness while still seeking accountability.“He mattered. He mattered a lot. He was loved. He was a loved, funny person,” Miles said. “So, just please, I pray you learn from this incident. Never drink nothing ever again.”The CHP said it is still investigating the incident.
