SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — Two men were shot in downtown San Jose on Sunday night, the San Jose Police Department said. The shooting happened around 9:12 p.m. on North Market and West Santa Clara streets. One of the men died at the scene, police said.
The second victim was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to SJPD. On Monday morning, police said he remains in critical condition but is expected to survive.

The deadly shooting is believed to be an “isolated incident,” according to police. No information about the suspected shooter or shooters has been released in the investigation.
SJPD is investigating this shooting as a homicide, the city’s 13th of the year. San Jose’s 12th homicide of 2026 occurred on June 15.
Police told KRON4 Monday morning that “While this incident occurred away from San Pedro Square and was not associated with yesterday’s watch party, we will be ensuring officers are visible in and around the area today so fans and visitors feel safe.”
Streets in the area were shut down until around 9:30 a.m. Monday as police investigated the incident.
