Popular Alamo Square cafe and bakery The Mill is closed indefinitely after a fire early Monday morning. The San Francisco Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at the building at 736 Divisadero St. at 2:28 a.m., an SFFD spokesperson told SFGATE.

“The cause of the fire has been deemed accidental, and there were no displacements or injuries reported,” the spokesperson told SFGATE. The fire department arrived quickly and successfully extinguished the fire, preventing the flames from spreading to any adjacent buildings, they added.

The Mill shared the news of the fire on Instagram Monday morning. “Everyone is safe, just in shock,” read the post. The Mill added that it will be closed until further notice.

“We are extremely grateful to say nobody was harmed,” the Mill told SFGATE in an emailed statement. “… As of now we do not have a timeline for reopening. Thank you to our amazing community for the support and profound thanks to the firefighters of the SF Fire Department for containing the fire.”

The Mill opened in 2013 as a collaboration between Four Barrel Coffee and Josey Baker Bread, quickly building a following for its freshly baked bread, including thick slices of toast topped with avocado mash or seasonal jam, and becoming one of the leaders of San Francisco’s nationally recognized artisanal toast trend.

The Mill is the second restaurant to catch fire in the Alamo Square neighborhood this month: Lauded Italian restaurant Che Fico, just a block away, is temporarily closed after being badly damaged in a June 11 fire. The cause of the fire was unknown. “Che Fico is going to get rebuilt, we’re going to open up, we’re going to be better than ever,” owner David Nayfeld said in an Instagram post at the time.
