The Northern California winery where the story of Trader Joe’s famous “Two Buck Chuck” began has sold.

The 42-acre Napa Valley estate, known as Benessere Vineyards, sold at auction last week for $10.15 million, according to information from Concierge Auctions, which handled the sale alongside Jamie Spratling and Kevin McDonald of Sotheby’s International Realty – Wine Country.

Mansion Global couldn’t determine who bought the property, which first hit the market for $35 million in 2024.

Previously, the winery was home to Charles Shaw, the brand behind “Two Buck Chuck.”

When the original iteration of Charles Shaw went bankrupt in the 1990s, it was acquired by Fred Franzia of Bronco Wine Co., who went on to partner with Trader Joe’s to sell the inexpensive wine—nicknamed for its initial $1.99 price tag—starting in 2002.

Charles Shaw’s vineyard meanwhile, was acquired by the Benish family in 1994 for a little over $1.5 million, Mansion Global previously reported

“Our family built something truly special here, and we’re grateful to see the estate transition to a new owner who can build upon that foundation,” John Benish, who sold the home along with his four siblings, said in a statement.

The estate has a fully operational winery, a tasting room, a six-bedroom main house with views of the surroundings from every room, and a second home modeled after a water tower with one bedroom, an observation area and a wine cellar.

Its 29 acres of planted vines produce Pinot Grigio, Vermentino, Falanghina, Teroldego, Nero d’Avola, Primitivo, Montepulciano, Sagrantino and Aglianico.
