Government offices — Los Angeles city and county, national and state offices — and superior courts, libraries and schools — are normally closed for a federal holiday.
However, if a federal holiday falls on a Saturday — as July 4th does in 2026 — some government office and other services, may observe the holiday on the Friday before the holiday; or on Friday and Saturday; or they may be on a regular schedule.

Here is a sampling of services that are closed, on a regular schedule or closed on Friday-Saturday, July 3-4:
Banks: Closed. New York Stock Exchange markets are closed (nyse.com/trade/hours-calendars).
Courts: Closed. Superior Court 2026 holidays: lacourt.ca.gov/holiday/ui/index.aspx
Libraries: Los Angeles Public Library locations are closed on July 3-4 (lapl.org/holiday-closures), and Los Angeles County Library locations are also closed on July 3-4 lacountylibrary.org.

Metrolink trains run on a weekend schedule on July 3 with service on the Antelope Valley, Orange County, 91/Perris Valley, San Bernardino, Inland Empire-Orange County and Ventura County Lines (metrolinktrains.com). Trash: Pickups for Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment customers are on a regular schedule. LA Sanitation explains: “Independence Day 2026 falls on a Saturday, so there will be no collection delays that week. If the holiday is on a Saturday or Sunday: There is no delay in service. You should place your bins out on your normal collection day.”
