CALVERTON, Md. – The Port of Long Beach, Calif., has been named as the inaugural recipient of the Intermodal Association of North America’s Intermodal Innovation Award, IANA announced on Tuesday, June 30.
The port was recognized for its efforts in infrastructure investment, digital innovation, operational innovation, environmental stewardship, and collaboration across the supply chain, the organization said.
“The Intermodal Innovation Award recognizes organizations that don’t simply respond to change – they help create it,” IANA CEO Anne Reinke said in a press release. “The Port of Long Beach has consistently demonstrated what forward-looking leadership looks like by investing in the infrastructure, technology and partnerships that strengthen intermodal transportation for the entire industry. Their work is creating lasting benefits for shippers, carriers, ports and supply chain partners across North America, making them a fitting inaugural recipient of this award.”
Among the notable infrastructure projects at the Port of Long Beach is development of the Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility. The $1.8 billion project, which began construction in 2024 and is expected to be complete in 2032, is part of the port’s effort to shift container traffic from truck to rail.
The Port of Long Beach will receive the award during IANA’s Intermodal Expo, to be held Sept. 14-16 in Long Beach.
