SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — A San Jose man was allegedly murdered after he hired a prostitute to drive to his apartment, according to court documents recently filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court. An associate of the woman fatally shot the victim on May 2, court records state.
The accused killer was identified by prosecutors as a 39-year-old Oakland man, James Goodman, aka Jamal Wood. He was arrested this June and charged with first-degree murder.
The woman, who was allegedly hired by the victim to exchange sex acts for money, was identified in court documents as Devinae Mitchell, 26, of Hercules.
Just before 1 a.m. on May 2, San Jose Police Department officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound and lying in the driveway of an apartment complex on Summerside Drive, SJPD said. He died at a hospital.

Mitchell is now charged with acting as an accessory to murder. Prosecutors accused her of helping to “harbor, conceal, and aid James Goodman … with the intent that he might avoid and escape arrest,” court documents state.

Detectives apprehended Goodman and Mitchell in Hercules on June 18. Goodman is currently being held in a San Jose jail without bail, while Mitchell was released from custody.
The murder suspect is scheduled to appear in court to enter a plea on August 5.
