Erin Henry, 67, was indicted Wednesday, July 1 for leaving the scene of a fatal accident, the Nassau County District Attorney’s office said.
Henry, of Long Beach, was driving a 2019 Honda HR-V when she struck Tony Thomas, 59, on Beech Street on March 24, according to investigators.
“Quick thinking witnesses recorded Henry’s license plate, and she was located by police driving to work as if nothing had happened, callously blaming a fictitious boulder for the beloved grandfather’s death when she was pulled over and questioned,” District Attorney Anne Donnelly said.
Henry worked as a school nurse and was driving home to pick up forgotten items around 7:45 a.m. on the day of the crash, authorities said. She was traveling eastbound on Beech Street when she collided with Thomas, who was riding his bicycle, according to investigators.
After pleading not guilty Wednesday, Henry was held on $25,000 cash bail, prosecutors said. She faces a maximum of seven years in prison if convicted and is due back in court on Aug 11.
