Coast business owners pack blessing boxes to help those in need

  • November 4, 2025

LONG BEACH/OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WLOX) – In an effort to help those impacted by the government shutdown, people throughout the Coast are going the extra mile to make sure people have the food they need.

Blessing boxes have become a new resource for those in need to get groceries in a pinch.

The owners of Radish and Dolce Bakery in Long Beach, William and Brooke Rester, have begun stuffing the blessing box outside their business with canned vegetables and box meals like macaroni and cheese.

This blessing box is located in the alleyway outside Dolce Bakeshop, 200 Jeff Davis Avenue, Unit 2, in Long Beach.

Ocean Springs resident Britnie Rider also converted part of a little library in her community into a blessing box for food. Rider also left a cooler nearby with additional food items and provided a space for donations.

This blessing box can be found at 4596 Pinehaven Drive in Ocean Springs.

Both Rider and the Rester family hope people use these boxes as needed and are able to rest easier knowing there are options available for them.
