The Padres have followed a four-game winning streak with a five-game skid that they carry into Dodger Stadium. They are 12 games behind the Dodgers and just a half-game up on the third-place Diamondbacks in the NL West. They are also two games out of the NL’s last wild-card spot. The Padres’ minus-36 run differential is ninth-worst in the majors.
Los Angeles Dodgers (56-31, 1st in NL West)
The Dodgers have baseball’s best record and run differential (plus-157), nearly 30 runs better than the next-best team. The Dodgers have won four of six so far against the Padres, all at Petco Park. The final series between the two teams will be played Sept. 22-24 at Dodger Stadium, the second-to-last series of the regular season.

Los Angeles: SS Mookie Betts has two homers and seven RBIs over the last week. The two homers is tops on the team over that stretch, while seven RBIs are tied for the team lead with OF Tommy Edman. DH Shohei Ohtani (.680) is the only regular with an OPS over .720 over that stretch. LHP Jack Dreyer (3 ⅔ IP) has not allowed a run in any of the four games he’s pitched over the last week.

Padres RHP Randy Vásquez (6-6, 4.44 ERA) | He pitched behind an opener last weekend against the Dodgers, allowing seven runs—four earned—on eight hits and a walk in 3⅓ innings. Vásquez has a 7.34 ERA over his last seven appearances, walking 13 against 15 strikeouts over 30⅔ innings. He has allowed nine homers over that stretch.
Dodgers RHP Roki Sasaki (3-5, 4.88 ERA) | The second-year starter took the loss in the Dodgers’ only loss last weekend at Petco Park. He tied a season high with five walks and allowed three runs in four innings in his first career appearance against the Padres. Sasaki has an 8.36 ERA over his last three starts.
Friday
Padres RHP Michael King (5-7, 3.55 ERA) | He hoped he’d turned a corner by starting the previous homestand with five strikeouts and no walks over seven shutout innings to beat the Braves to start the previous homestand. King, however, allowed four runs on three hits, four walks and two hit batters in 4⅓ innings in a loss on Sunday to these same Dodgers. King has two quality starts in his last seven starts (5.45 ERA).
Dodgers RHP Shohei Ohtani (8-2, 1.58 ERA) | He’s pitching on a season-high eight days of rest after having his start pushed back to manage his workload. He’s allowed two earned runs or less 11 of his 13 starts. Ohtani beat the Padres with five shutout innings at Petco Park in May. He struck out four and scattered three hits and two walks.
Saturday
Padres RHP Griffin Canning (1-5, 7.09 ERA) | After two bulk duty assignments (5 IP, 5 ER), Canning was back on the mound to start Monday in Chicago and he allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in 4⅓ innings in a no-decision. Canning allowed three runs on four hits and a walk in five innings against the Dodgers in May at Petco Park.
Dodgers RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (8-5, 2.67 ERA) | He’s spun six quality starts in his last seven trips to the mound (1.70 ERA) and has thrown two quality starts at the Padres twice this year. In those games, Yamamoto has struck out 12, walked four and allowed a 2.08 ERA over 13 innings.
Sunday
Padres LHP JP Sears (1-1, 6.97 ERA) | He followed up a win over the Braves in his 2026 debut (5⅔ IP, 2 ER) with a clunker at Wrigley Field (4 ⅔ IP, 8 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 3 BBs). Sears’ only history with the Dodgers was back in a loss in 2023 (5 IP, 2 ER) with the Athletics.
Dodgers RHP Emmet Sheehan (4-5, 5.08 ERA) | He’s got a 4.15 ERA in three career starts (13 IP) against the Padres, including two this year (8 IP, 5 ER). Sheehan has five quality starts in 15 trips to the mound this year.

RHPs Germán Márquez (forearm nerve) and Matt Waldron (brachialis) are also rehabbing with El Paso. RHP Jeremiah Estrada (knee) has remained so far in Arizona. RHPs Nick Pivetta (flexor) and Joe Musgrove (elbow) have moved their rehab work to the mound. OF Ramón Laureano (hip) is likely done for the year following surgery.
Los Angeles: LHP Blake Snell (elbow) threw a 15-pitch bullpen on Friday, the first of likely four before facing hitters following his NanoScope procedure to remove loose bodies. C Will Smith (neck) will return in early July. The pitching staff is also without RHPs Blake Treinen (elbow), Brock Stewart (foot), Edwin Díaz (elbow), Tyler Glasnow (back), Evan Phillips (Tommy John), Gavin Stone (shoulder), Brusdar Graterol (shoulder, back), Ben Casparius (shoulder), Landon Knack (intercostal), Jake Cousins (Tommy John) and Bobby Miller (shoulder).
