BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A woman who was recovered from a Truxtun Avenue canal on June 22 was identified as 43-year-old Shamika Washington of Bakersfield, according to the Kern County coroner.

Washington’s body was found in a canal in the 1400 block of Truxtun Avenue at about 11:23 a.m., the coroner said. An autopsy is pending.

Washington was reported missing last August by her family, but was later found that month.

KCSO said a call was made on Monday, June 22, at around 11:39 a.m., for Search and Rescue at the canal near Truxtun Avenue and Empire Drive. There, Washington’s body was recovered.
