BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — BELOW AVERAGE TEMPERATURES CONTINUE
This weekend came in cool and left even cooler across Kern County. Bakersfield’s high on Saturday topped out at 87 degrees. Sunday didn’t make it above 84. Meanwhile, the desert towns experienced even cooler air, with Mojave maxing out at 77 yesterday, while Edwards met 85. The winds were quite strong during the afternoon with winds gusting up to 56 mph at Mojave’s airport with speeds reaching the 30 to 50 mph range across the Kern River Valley.
NOT MUCH WARMER MOST OF THE WEEK
The late-Spring-like trough during the beginning of summer will continue to be reinforced for the next few days keeping the weather on the cooler-than-average side for our region. Meanwhile, a lot of heat is expected to build across the central and eastern United States, as a see-saw temperature pattern prevails. Even with thermometers rising into the low 90s on Tuesday the South Valley should still be below average through Friday based on the latest data.
TEMPS COULD RISE NEXT WEEKEND
Ridging might try to break through by next weekend, and if that happens the numbers would go up areawide. The 4th of July weekend could be a bit warmer than the latest one we just had. How long will that next heat-up last and will it actually culminate in another heatwave, or stop short, remains to be seen.
