LFD: 3 firefighters injured after vacant house fire in the California neighborhood

Three firefighters were injured early Sunday morning after a vacant house fire in the California neighborhood.It was just after midnight when crews were called out to the 1600 block of Prentice Street for a reported residential structure fire.When they got to the scene, they found heavy flames coming from a vacant two-story home, with fire spreading to a neighboring house.Officials said a second alarm was requested so that they could bring in additional resources, and they were able to bring the fire under control around 1 a.m. As they were working to get the fire under control, part of a wall collapsed, injuring three firefighters.One was taken to a local hospital where officials said they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.Two other firefighters reportedly sustained minor injuries, but they remained on duty.In total, 49 firefighters responded to the scene, including eight engines, four trucks, two battalion chiefs and one staff officer.The Louisville Fire Department Arson Bureau is now investigating the cause of the fire.
