LOS ANGELES — For the first time in two months, Luis Campusano is behind the plate as the Padres look to end a seven-game skid — their worst losing streak since 2021 — on Saturday at Dodger Stadium.

First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. (Padres.TV, KFMB 8.1/CBS, TV Azteca).

The 27-year-old Campusano last played on May 5 in San Francisco. He was hitting .288/.362/.596 with three homers when a toe fracture sent him to the injured list. An oblique tweak complicated his push to return as Campusano didn’t begin a rehab assignment until Tuesday with Triple-A El Paso and had played in just two games when Freddy Fermin’s latest stint on the injured list led the Padres to activate him over recalling Blake Hunt, the other catcher on the 40-man roster.

Campusano was 2-for-6 with a homer, two RBIs, two walks and two strikeouts on his rehab assignment.

He’ll bat ninth as the Padres look to end their longest losing streak since losing seven toward the final week of the 2021 season.

The last time they lost eight games in a row was 2013, when they lost 10 in a row from June 29 to July 8.

Most of that skid occurred on the road, when the Padres won the opener in Miami and then lost their next eight road games an done more to start the ensuing homestand.

The Padres have lost every game of this road trip so far, today’s game and Sunday’s still on tap. The last time they lost every game of a trip of at least six games was six-gamer through Houston and Chicago in 2009.

A game under .500, the Padres (43-44) are 14 games out of first in the NL West, tied for second with the Diamondbacks and four games out of a wild-card spot.

Saturday’s pitching matchup

Padres LHP Wandy Peralta (1-1, 2.38 ERA)

He’s appearing for the fourth time as an opener. Peralta has not allowed a run in three innings in that role, but he gave up four runs on six hits in an inning to the Dodgers in Thursday’s loss. Padres RHP Griffin Canning (1-5, 7.09 ERA) has bulk duty today.  After two bulk duty assignments (5 IP, 5 ER), Canning was back on the mound to start Monday in Chicago and he allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in 4⅓ innings in a no-decision. Canning allowed three runs on four hits and a walk in five innings against the Dodgers in May at Petco Park.

Dodgers RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto (8-5, 2.67 ERA)

He’s spun six quality starts in his last seven trips to the mound (1.70 ERA) and has thrown two quality starts at the Padres twice this year. In those games, Yamamoto has struck out 12, walked four and allowed a 2.08 ERA over 13 innings.
