Detectives in Compton are investigating two different shootings that resulted in a total of three people dead, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
The first shooting was reported at a large Fourth of July party on the 700 block of W. Laurel Street at about 11:20 p.m., LASD said. There, two people were found shot.
The victims’ names were not released, but law enforcement described them as one woman and one man. Their approximate ages were not immediately available.
Three other people, including a minor, were hurt during the shooting. The minor and the woman who were injured were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while the man was hospitalized in critical condition.
It’s unclear what led up to the violence and a detailed description of the gunman was not immediately available.
About 30 minutes later, another shooting was reported – this time on the 2100 block of Grandee Avenue, according to LASD.
This shooting was reported at about 12:10 a.m. at a large block party. There, a man was struck by gunfire and died of his injuries. His name has not been released.
Details on what led up to this shooting remain under investigation.
LASD said there is no evidence that both shootings were related. They remain under investigation.
