Temperatures will rise as high as 114 degrees this week in San Diego County’s desert areas, conditions that can cause severe dehydration and heat stroke, according to the National Weather Service.
The highest temperatures are expected to occur in and around Borrego Springs and Ocotillo Wells. Forecasters project the following daily highs: 110 degrees on Monday, 111 degrees on Tuesday, 114 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday, 112 degrees on Friday, and 110 degrees on Saturday.
Forecasters consider readings above 100 to be potentially life threatening.
Conditions will be much more pleasant at the coast. The projected high for San Diego is 73 on Monday, and 74 Tuesday through Saturday.
Sea-surface temperatures along the coast will be in the 68- to 69-degree range.
