A man was sentenced by a judge after he was convicted last month for a February 2024 deadly shooting in a Wingstop parking lot in south Sacramento, according to prosecutors. The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said Alimohammed Hamid was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison on Monday. On June 2, Hamid was convicted by a jury of second-degree murder and the jury found the use of a firearm allegation to be true. The victim, 38-year-old Joseph Soto, was shot outside a Wingstop on the 5900 block of Florin Road on Feb. 24, 2024, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office previously said. Prosecutors said Soto was parked in the parking lot of the business and began walking toward the restaurant. Hamid was parked in the next space. As Hamid was backing out of his parking spot and driving toward the exit, he rolled down his rear passenger window and began a verbal exchange with Soto, prosecutors said. Soto responded, which prompted a brief argument. As Soto turned around to walk back toward the restaurant, prosecutors said Hamid got a firearm from his center console and fired one shot out of the back window, striking Soto in the back. Hamid fled from the scene and threw away the gun and shell casing. Soto was taken to the hospital and was expected to survive. His condition worsened and he died from his injuries on March 21, 2024.
