SAN FRANCISCO — Heliot Ramos lamented last week how he had come mere inches from the first multi-homer game of his career. So, in Monday’s 10-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, Ramos hit three of them.
Sort of.
There was the opposite-field, three-run home run that landed in the right-field arcade. There was the majestic no-doubter that landed more than halfway up the left-field bleachers, a majestic blast that evoked memories of Andrés Galarraga. Finally, there was the leadoff “Little League” home run, the product of a triple and an error.
And ironically enough, that Little League home run would’ve been a big league homer in 29 other ballparks.
“I knew it,” said Ramos, who drove in a career-high five RBIs. “Me and Rafi [Devers] were talking about. I was talking to Rafi like, ‘They got to bring it in.’”
Ramos made a very niche bit of history with his performance, becoming the first Giants since Johnny Mize in 1947 to hit two homers and a Little League homer in the same game. The outfielder said his opposite-field home run was his favorite swing of the night, but manager Tony Vitello described being in awe of Ramos’ 434-foot blast to ice the game.
“As a kid, my dad always [told me] back in the day how they cherished hitting the ball the other way, not striking out, hitting for average,” Ramos said. “So, my dad always taught me that. He just wanted me to be a good hitter.”
“You know what kind of power, especially in this stadium, he’s got going the other way,” said manager Tony Vitello said. “But that was kind of one, everyone was thunderstruck on that one.”
Not to be overshadowed by Ramos was right-hander Landen Roupp, who allowed just one run over a career-high eight innings. Roupp fought to stay in the game and record the first complete game of his career, but at 104 pitches, Vitello went to his bullpen to seal the blowout win instead of pushing his starter.
“Obviously, when you’re in the zone and you’re wanting to compete, you don’t really like it. But, more for the health side, probably a better decision just to end with eight,” Roupp said.
“When he uses that fire to keep his house lit and warm instead of burning the house down, he’s capable of great things,” Vitello said.

The Giants had lost Roupp’s last 11 starts entering play, a stretch in which he posted a 5.87 ERA over 53 2/3 innings. Roupp wasn’t oblivious to streak, noting that it had been weighing on him “super heavy.”
“Like I said, I haven’t really pitched well enough to give the guys a chance to win,” Roupp said. “Tonight, I felt like I did that. So, getting back on the right track.”
“He’s one of the guys that’s going to play for a long time,” Ramos said. “His mindset, just the person that he is, I think he goes out there and he wants to kill people. That’s a really good mindset to have.”
Ramos, with the help of the Blue Jays’ defense, manufactured the first run of the game with a leadoff Little League home run, legging out a three-bagger to Triples Alley, then scoring when shortstop Andrés Giménez threw the ball into the Giants’ dugout.
After scoring a run in the fourth when Willy Adames grounded into a double play with a runner on third, San Francisco called upon a double steal with runners at the corners to swipe its third run.

With two outs in the fifth, Luis Arraez took off for second and drew a throw from Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk. Once Kirk fired a high throw, Victor Bericoto, the runner on third, dashed home to steal a run.
If the Giants used speed in the fifth, they used power in the sixth. San Francisco established a commanding lead by putting up a five-spot in the sixth, the big swing of the inning being an opposite-field, three-run homer by Ramos.
Not content with just one homer, Ramos launched a no-doubt, two-run shot in the bottom of the eighth to put the game on ice, a 434-foot blast that landed more than halfway up the left-field bleachers.
