BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Every day, Americans fall for scams aimed at stealing money or personal information that can cause real damage to their finances.
Utility scams are some of the most common.
PG&E says customers have already lost more than $211,000 to scammers, with nearly 150 reported scam victims in Kern County alone.
PG&E Lead Scam Investigator Matt Foley joined ARC Bakersfield to share what customers should look out for.
Foley says the signs of a scam include a threat to disconnect service, asking to see your bill and requests for immediate payment.
