San Diego Sheriff’s Deputies are looking for a man who is suspected of setting a fire at an apartment complex, leaving three people hurt in Imperial Beach on Tuesday morning.
The fire was reported around 1:36 a.m. at the 1300 block of Imperial Beach Blvd. when a fire, suspected to have started at a camper parked in a driveway, spread to nearby apartments. Four apartments were evacuated, Imperial Beach Fire Department Capt. Jason Bell said.
Three people were hurt in the fire, and two were taken to a local hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown, Capt. Bell said.
The San Diego Sheriff’s Department said they are investigating this as a potential arson. The suspect is described as a bald man in his 40s wearing a blue-and-black button-up shirt.
Captain Bell wanted to remind residents of the importance of ensuring their smoke detectors are working properly.
“Make sure your smoke detectors are operational; check your batteries; those will be your initial lifeline and give you the early warning to get out while there’s still time,” Capt. Bell said.
Red Cross is at the scene helping the seven people who were displaced.
Imperial Beach Blvd. reopened after being closed for several hours.
