(KRON) — A San Jose pastor faces jail time after being convicted of domestic violence, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday.
Ray Fitzgerald Montgomery, 59, is the former executive director of PACT, or People Acting in Community Together. After three hours of jury deliberations on Thursday, he was found guilty of violently assaulting a 42-year-old woman in his home in 2024, according to prosecutors.
During the June 6, 2024, incident, prosecutors said Montgomery “picked the victim up and dragged her down the hallway. She told him to stop, but he refused, eventually beginning to strangle her by pressing her neck between his forearm and bicep. Around that time, she felt she was about to lose consciousness when she felt him release her, causing her to then collapse on the floor.”

The woman was able to run and hide in a bathroom to call for help, the DA’s office said. The next day, she went to the hospital and reported the domestic violence.
On Nov. 26, 2024, the victim gave the name of her abuser to San Jose police. She later provided follow-up statements to investigators, according to prosecutors.
Montgomery is set to be sentenced on Sept. 8 at the Hall of Justice in San Jose.
