A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, July 7, for former Lakewood council member and mayor Diane DuBois. She passed away last month at the age of 87.
DuBois was one of Lakewood’s longest-serving officials, completing 28 years on the Planning and Environment Commission and another 15 years on the Lakewood City Council, including three terms as mayor.
Beyond her work in city government, DuBois dedicated decades to community service. She served on the boards of Lakewood Meals on Wheels, Lakewood Regional Medical Center, the Greater Long Beach Girl Scout Council, and the inaugural Board of Trustees for the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House. She also served as community outreach chair and scholarship chair for the Pan American Association, president of Soroptimist International of Lakewood/Long Beach, and board chair of Pathways Volunteer Hospice.
“Diane was the ultimate embodiment of civic duty: a tireless volunteer, a respected leader, and a deeply devoted elected official,” said Lakewood Mayor Cassandra Chase. “She represented the very best of Lakewood, anchoring her life in community building and a fierce commitment to Lakewood’s future. We are profoundly grateful for her more than 40 years of selfless service, and we express our deepest, most heartfelt condolences to her beloved family and to the city that loved her in return.”
