SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Police have identified the man who died after officers found him lying in a Point Loma road with traumatic injuries.

San Diego Police responded to reports of a person down in the 4400 Block of Nimitz Boulevard at 1:50 a.m. on July 2 and found 62-year-old Darrell Cogdill, of San Diego, unresponsive.

San Diego Fire-Rescue paramedics gave Cogdill life-saving treatment and took him to the hospital, where he later died.

Hospital staff reported to police that they found traumatic injuries to his upper body that included a gunshot wound, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Cogdill’s death is being investigated as a homicide.
