After losing 9 of their last 10 games, the San Diego Padres got a much needed win Tuesday night at Petco Park, beating the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1.
The game didn’t start well for San Diego.
Starting pitcher German Marquez had already allowed 1 run, when he found himself in a 1-0ut bases loaded jam, but he induced an inning ending double play and pitched great from there.
For a Padre starting staff in need of quality starts, they got one from Marquez, as he pitched 5 innings, allowed just 1 run and struck out 4 batters to earn the victory.
All of the games scoring was done in the 1st inning. Jackson Merrill plated Fernando Tatis Jr. with an RBI single to even the score. Later in the inning, Jake Cronenworth hit a 384-foot 3-run home run to right for a 4-1 Padre advantage.
Mason Miller came on in the 9th inning to earn his 23rd save of the season.
The Padres and Diamondbacks series rolls on Wednesday from Petco Park.
