SAN FRANCISCO — Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry will not play in Wednesday’s game against the Sacramento Kings as he continues to deal with the effects of a lingering cold. Warriors coach Steve Kerr made the decision for Curry after Tuesday night’s 118-107 win over the Phoenix Suns.
“He’s wiped out right now,” Kerr said. “I don’t care what the doctors say, we got to get him some rest. I’ll make the decision right now, he’s not gonna play (Wednesday). He needs some rest. He’s been sick. All the travel, everything, it’s just caught up to him. So hopefully getting some rest and hopefully he’ll be ready to go for Denver.”
Curry, who scored 28 points, shooting 9-for-23 from the field in 33 minutes on Tuesday, was coughing during an abbreviated postgame press conference with reporters after the game.
“The second half, the tank was on E,” Curry admitted.

Curry said he’s been dealing with the cold for a couple days after a two-game road trip that featured cooler climates in Milwaukee and Indianapolis. The Warriors lost both of those games, with Curry going 4-for-16 from beyond the arc in Saturday’s loss to the Pacers. Curry acknowledged that he was feeling worse throughout Tuesday’s game.
“I was just trying to dig deep, especially in the second half to get through the game,” Curry said. “Knowing Jimmy was out too. It was a battle out there, but thankfully we got it done.”
Warriors forward Jimmy Butler is also questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Kings because of back soreness. Butler, who was questionable coming into Tuesday’s game because of the same injury, did not return for the second half after tweaking something in his back. Butler was just 1-for-5 from the floor on Tuesday, playing just 14 minutes before exiting.
“He felt like he could go and he tweaked it a little bit,” Kerr said. “And we took him out. So he’s questionable for (Wednesday) as well.”
Kerr also said that the Warriors would have to assess where veteran Draymond Green is following the game as the Warriors try to balance the demands of a packed early season schedule with trying to find rest for a veteran-laden team. For his part, Green seemed confident he would be able to play on Wednesday, but the Warriors want to see how he’s feeling heading into the game.
“We’ve got a great challenge ahead to go try to win a game shorthanded,” Kerr added. “And I’m excited for all the guys who are gonna be playing (Wednesday).”
