U.S. Border Patrol agents took three people into custody from a car parked at Grape Street Dog Park in Balboa Park early Monday morning, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
CBP said two personal watercraft were seen crossing the maritime boundary between Mexico and the United States early Monday and traveling north toward Point Loma, according to the CBP. Border Patrol agents arriving at the scene said they saw a vehicle flash its headlights before quickly driving away. Officials said the agents followed the vehicle to the intersection of 28th and Grape streets in South Park, where the Grape Street Dog Park is located.
A witness at the dog park captured video of the agents detaining three people, who, the CBP said, were all in the U.S. illegally. Authorities said they took two adult Mexican nationals and one adult Vietnamese national into custody.
Some people at the park took their phones out to record the operation, which took place as the Trump administration is making a big change: They want to put Border Patrol leaders in charge of ICE operations in cities across the U.S.
The people in custody were taken to a Border Patrol station for processing and removal proceedings, and their vehicle seized, CBP said.
