(FOX40.COM) — Jesuit High School Sacramento in Carmichael announced the first head coaches who will help establish the girls’ athletics program.

The announcement comes after the historical all-boys private Catholic high school declared in October 2025 that it will welcome its first cohort of young women to its campus in fall 2027 after the Jesuit High School of Sacramento Board of Trustees approved the change. 

The coaching staff includes Sarah Kelso, a current Jesuit faculty member, who will be coaching Cross Country, along with Mike Rosales, the current Jesuit Boys Track and Field coach, who will be coaching Flag Football. Kai Nabeta-Cacal, the current Jesuit Boys Swim assistant coach, will coach Swim Dive, and Sara Marks will return as the Jesuit volleyball coach.

“These leaders bring a wealth of coaching experience, a deep commitment to student-athlete development, and strong connections to the Jesuit community. Collectively, they also bring years of experience within Ignatian education as teachers, coaches, mentors, and, in some cases, former students themselves,” officials with the school said. “Their understanding of Jesuit values and the transformative power of athletics will play an important role in shaping the culture, competitiveness, and spirit of our inaugural teams.”

According to school officials, Jesuit will have a girls’ division and a boys’ division, with each division learning in separate classrooms, but still joining together for service, athletics, arts and leadership.

While parents and alumni have previously gathered to protest the decision, the school said the choice is final.

Jesuit High School told FOX40 back in November that those with concerns should contact the school directly.
