The Bay Area’s League One Volleyball (LOVB) team has a new name: the San Francisco Signal.
After thousands of submissions with recommendations, the name was announced Wednesday ahead of their first serve in January 2027.
Created by a women-led group and designed with athletes and community, the professional team represents a new model for professional sports, where performance, purpose and ownership come together.
“We couldn’t be more excited about the name Signal, what it represents and the incredible way our community embraced the journey. One of the greatest joys has been watching people across the Bay Area share ideas, debate their favorites and help shape our identity. That’s exactly how we hoped this team would begin, with the community building it alongside us,” Stephanie Martin, President and Co-Founder of LOVB San Francisco said.
The teams official merchandise also released Wednesday. Their color palette reflects the energy and beauty that helps define the Bay Area.
“Siren Red” draws inspiration from the Golden Gate Bridge, “First Light Cream” is a tribute to the San Francisco fog and “Horizon Blue” represents the water and skies that expand within the region.
To celebrate the announcement, Coit Tower, City Hall, the Oakland Tribune Building and other Bay Area landmarks will be illuminated in “Siren Red.”
