Maggie’s Refuel, led by food-tech entrepreneur Alex Canter, plans to turn a traditional gas station stop into a five-star experience
A transformed convenience-store concept is coming to L.A.
Maggie’s Refuel is the city’s first high-end pit stop and is set to open in Beverly Hills in 2027.
Led by the fourth-generation owner of Canter’s Deli, Alex Canter, and inspired by Japan’s 7-Eleven and Italy’s Autogrill, the c-store will pair gas station classics like Diet Coke, Peanut M&Ms and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos with locally sourced pastries and elevated soft serve.
The premium experience, named after Canter’s French bulldog mix, will also include EV charging and a mobile app.
“We’re planning to build a best-in-class, hospitality-driven experience, featuring soft serve, lattes on draft, matcha, pastries and curated snacks from around the world,” Canter told CSP Daily News. “We’re also working on some exciting food collaborations with local restaurants.”
Canter also told CSP Daily News on Tuesday that the location for Maggie’s first store will be the Union 76 gas station at the corner of Crescent Drive and Little Santa Monica Blvd. He said they plan to keep the 76 brand after they open Maggie’s on-site.
Canter’s previous ventures also include virtual restaurant company Nextbite, which he sold to hospitality mogul Sam Nazarian in 2023.

Maggie’s recently raised $2 million in pre-seed funding from Matchstick Ventures, Mucker Capital and Everywhere Ventures, according to Finally Offline. Former 7-Eleven president and CEO Jim Keyes and former Starbucks executive vice president and chief development officer Meredith Sandland are also serving as advisors for the project.
If the concept proves successful, the company says it plans to expand across the L.A. area before moving to other West Coast markets.
