(FOX40.COM) — A woman has received a $1.2 million settlement from Sacramento County after she was shoved by a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office deputy in 2024, resulting in injuries and hospitalization.
Deputy body camera footage from Oct. 7, 2024, at around 11 p.m. showed a deputy shoving a woman, identified as 71-year-old Ourania Thimmhardy, out of the Sacramento County Main Jail, causing her to fall to the ground.
Thimmhardy, who has a history of mental health issues, was arrested on Oct. 5 for refusing to leave a retail store while experiencing a mental health crisis, officials said. She was in custody for two days before being released.
The day of her release, a deputy was attempting to get her to sign her name on documents, according to the bodycam footage. After some discourse, the deputy gives Thimmhardy her items before walking out with her and a group of other deputies.
As she is led to the door, another deputy alludes to the woman assaulting his partner.
The video shows a deputy, identified as Matthew Gurich, shoving the woman out of the building, resulting in her falling onto the sidewalk.
In April 2025, FOX40 spoke to the family of the woman, who confirmed she was left with a broken femur at the hip socket, an injury that required surgery.
The deputy was terminated after being placed on administrative leave. The law office of Mark E. Merin released an updated citizen complaint letter against the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office in September 2025.
Sacramento County paid the $1.2 million settlement to Thimmhardy, according to county officials.
