East L.A.—The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation announced Thursday the launch of a free summer concert series that will bring 108 performances to 27 parks across the county.

The series, “Sounds of LA County,” began Thursday and will feature concerts on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at parks throughout Los Angeles County.
County officials said the performances will highlight local independent musicians and are intended to reflect the culture and character of the communities where they are held.
Participating communities include La Puente, Sylmar, Carson, Azusa, West Covina, Palmdale and Lancaster, among others.
The concerts will feature a variety of musical genres, including Latin, R&B, hip-hop, jazz, reggae, country, Americana, Indigenous music and family-oriented performances.

“LA County Parks has always been a place where communities come together,” Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation Director Norma E. García-González said in a statement. “With `Sounds of LA County,’ we’re expanding that tradition by creating new opportunities for local artists while giving residents free access to live music that reflects the unique culture of their own neighborhoods.”
The series is being produced by NextFest LA, an independent music festival organization that focuses on promoting local artists.
County officials said the program is designed to support the local creative economy while providing residents with free access to live performances in neighborhood parks.
The series will continue through Aug. 29.
The Department of Parks and Recreation manages 184 parks and numerous recreational facilities throughout Los Angeles County.
