The Sacramento County Board of Education has appointed Jacqueline White as the county’s next superintendent of schools, succeeding David Gordon.
White was appointed by a 6-0 vote with one absence following a nationwide search. She assumes the role Tuesday, Sept. 1, when she begins a monthlong transition with Gordon, who is retiring after more than two decades leading SCOE.
“This is the honor of my career,” White said in a statement. “I am deeply grateful to the Board of Education for their trust and confidence, and to Superintendent Gordon for his mentorship and the remarkable organization he has built over 22 years.”
After White takes office, Gordon will remain with SCOE as a special adviser through June 2027. He will help oversee the leadership transition and assist with responsibilities related to the Sacramento City Unified School District’s fiscal crisis and potential insolvency, as well as other strategic initiatives.
